What makes vinyl "gym-grade"

Fitness upholstery fails fast if it isn't built for the job — constant friction, body oils, sweat, and a daily soaking in disinfectant spray. Gym-grade vinyl has to take all of it:

  • Abrasion durability — measured in double rubs; our lines run from 100,000 up to 1,500,000 (Pinnacle, Spirit Millennium) for equipment that never gets a day off.
  • Sweat & body-oil resistant — a barrier that wipes clean instead of soaking in and breaking down.
  • Disinfectant & sanitizer cleanable — survives the spray-and-wipe routine without cracking or fading.
  • Antimicrobial on select lines (Silvertex, Spirit Millennium) — smart for high-touch shared equipment.
  • Fire-code rated — meets CAL TB 117 and NFPA 260 for commercial facilities.

How to spec gym upholstery

  1. Match durability to the use. High-traffic commercial equipment wants a high double-rub rating — lean to Pinnacle or Spirit Millennium (1.5M).
  2. Check cleanability against your sanitizer. If staff spray-and-wipe all day, you need vinyl rated for it.
  3. Add antimicrobial for shared touchpoints — specify Silvertex or Spirit Millennium.
  4. Confirm fire code (CAL TB 117 / NFPA 260) and sample your brand colors.

On cleaning: our gym vinyls are made to take repeated sanitizer wipe-downs — follow each product’s care guidance, and test a strong cleaner in a hidden spot first so your cleaning routine doesn’t outrun the warranty.

Gym upholstery FAQ

How durable is it — what’s a "double rub"?

Double rubs measure abrasion resistance (back-and-forth rubs before wear shows). Heavy commercial use wants high numbers — our toughest lines, Pinnacle and Spirit Millennium, hit 1,500,000.

Is it sweat- and sanitizer-resistant?

Yes — our gym lines resist sweat and body oils and are made for repeated disinfectant/sanitizer cleaning. Follow each product’s care guidance.

Is it antimicrobial?

Select lines are — Silvertex and Spirit Millennium carry antimicrobial surface protection, smart for shared equipment.

What should I use for benches vs. machine pads?

Both want high double-rubs and sanitizer-cleanability; for the highest-traffic pads, go with a 1.5M-double-rub line like Pinnacle or Spirit Millennium.

Can I get samples?

Yes — $5 swatches ship free so you can match your brand colors before ordering yardage.
