What "contract-grade" really means
The number that defines a contract vinyl is abrasion resistance, measured in double rubs on the Wyzenbeek test. The furniture industry's ACT guideline sets 100,000 double rubs as the threshold for "heavy-duty" contract upholstery. Most commercial vinyls land somewhere between 100,000 and 1,000,000.

A marine vinyl has to survive things a contract vinyl never sees: relentless UV, standing water and humidity, salt, and freeze-thaw cycles. The markers are UV/lightfastness, mildew resistance, cold-crack resistance, and a true marine flammability certification (IMO FTP).
