Product Details

Silvertex is the contract vinyl we sell for healthcare. Spradling built it for exam rooms, patient recliners, waiting areas, dental operatories and campus health centers — surfaces wiped down with disinfectant several times a day that still have to look right in year five. Fine fabric-like texture with a soft metallic cast rather than a fake leather grain, in 44 colors.

Best for: any healthcare or institutional job where the submittal names the tests. Silvertex carries CFFA-142 stain resistance under the CFFA Healthcare 201C standard, CFFA-101 accelerated disinfectant exposure, bacteria resistance to AATCC TM147 in its Permablok3 topcoat, mildew resistance to ASTM G21, and 100,000 Wyzenbeek double rubs — twice the 201C minimum for normal-traffic healthcare seating. Full commercial flame package: CAL TB 117-2013, NFPA 260, UFAC Class 1.

Choose something else if your submittal does not name the CFFA tests or an IAQ certificate. Pinnacle also publishes bacterial resistance (AATCC 147-2011), mildew resistance and a named disinfectant list, at a lower cost per yard. Call us and we will tell you straight which one your project actually needs — we would rather put you in the right material than win the line.

Why facilities keep specifying it

  • It survives the disinfectant cart. Roughly 60 named approved cleaners for the Permablok3 topcoat, including Clorox Healthcare VersaSure and Wipes, PDI Sani-Cloth AF3 and Super Sani-Cloth, Oxivir TB and CaviWipes.
  • It specs clean. A published test list rather than adjectives, and the same list every time.
  • It contributes to LEED and WELL. Greenguard and Indoor Air Quality certified for low emissions, made in an ISO 14001 / 45001 / 50001 plant.
  • It does not look institutional. 44 colors, including muted tones for behavioral health and warmer neutrals for senior living.

The one rule worth taping to the wall: clean a stain within 24 hours. Past that, Spradling reports cleaning effectiveness drops by roughly half and the stain may become permanent. That single habit does more for the life of a healthcare seat than any spec on this page.

On the bacteria-resistant finish: Permablok3 protects the vinyl, not people. It is not a disinfectant, it is not EPA-registered as one, and it does not replace your infection-control protocol. What an antimicrobial finish actually does in a clinic →

On the abrasion number: Silvertex lists 100,000 cycles under ASTM D4157 / CFFA-1a with #10 cotton duck. That is a healthcare-appropriate rating, and higher numbers elsewhere do not mean proportionally longer life. How to read double-rub ratings →

Ordering: sold by the yard with no minimum, 54″ wide, from 30-yard rolls. Volume breaks at 5, 15 and 30 yards per color. Color-matched thread and sew foam available. Choose your color above and use the $5 sample option before committing to yardage; sample shipping is free. Specifying a whole facility? Call us and we will quote it and schedule releases so later phases match your first ones.

Care & Cleaning
Routine cleaning: mild soap and warm water or a neutral, pH-neutral cleaner. Wipe with clean water and dry with a clean, lint-free cloth. The 24-hour rule: clean a stain within 24 hours. Past that, Spradling reports cleaning effectiveness drops by roughly half and the stain may become permanent. Disinfecting: Spradling publishes roughly 60 named approved cleaners for the Permablok3 topcoat, including Clorox Healthcare VersaSure and Clorox Healthcare Wipes, PDI Sani-Cloth AF3 and Super Sani-Cloth, Oxivir TB and Oxivir 1, Virex II 256, CaviWipes and CaviWipes Bleach, Micro-Kill Bleach Wipes, Clinell, Wex-Cide 128, Asepticare TB+II and Oasis 146. Bleach cleanable at 1:9 (one part household bleach to nine parts water). Isopropyl alcohol cleanable at 10%. Ask us for the current full approved-cleaner list for your facility's EVS protocol. After any disinfectant: rinse with clean water and dry. Residue left on the surface is a leading cause of premature hazing, tackiness and cracking on healthcare vinyl. Never use on Permablok3: solvents such as paint thinner, Varsol or acetone; whiteners; waxes; silicones; detergents that are not pH neutral; ANY product over 50% alcohol; plastic or wire sponges; hard brushes; abrasive cleansers or steel wool. Cleaning code: W (water-based cleaning agents or water-based foam).

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Silvertex meet healthcare submittal requirements?

Yes, and it is the line we stock specifically for that. It carries CFFA-142 stain resistance under the CFFA Healthcare 201C standard, CFFA-101 accelerated disinfectant exposure, AATCC TM147 bacteria resistance in the Permablok3 topcoat, and ASTM G21 mildew resistance, plus CAL TB 117-2013, NFPA 260 and UFAC Class 1. If your submittal names those tests, this is the material.

Is 100,000 double rubs enough for a clinic?

Yes. It is twice the CFFA 201C minimum for normal-traffic healthcare seating. Higher abrasion figures on other materials do not translate into proportionally longer service life — cleaning chemistry and how quickly stains get treated matter more in a clinical setting than the abrasion number does.

Which disinfectants can I use on it?

Spradling publishes roughly 60 named approved cleaners for the Permablok3 topcoat, including Clorox Healthcare VersaSure and Wipes, PDI Sani-Cloth AF3 and Super Sani-Cloth, Oxivir TB and CaviWipes. Follow each product's own dilution and contact time, then wipe with clean water and dry — residue left on the surface is what hazes and cracks healthcare vinyl on any brand.

Does the bacteria-resistant finish protect patients?

No. Permablok3 protects the vinyl. It inhibits bacterial and fungal growth on the material itself, which is what keeps a chair from staining and degrading between deep cleans. It is not a disinfectant, it is not EPA-registered as one, and it does not replace your facility's infection-control protocol.

Does Silvertex count toward LEED or WELL?

It is Greenguard certified and Indoor Air Quality certified for low emissions, and it is produced in an ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 / ISO 50001 plant. Whether that earns a point depends on the credit your project is pursuing — send us the credit and we will tell you what the documentation covers.

How quickly do stains need cleaning?

Within 24 hours. Spradling reports that past that window cleaning effectiveness drops by roughly half and the stain may become permanent. That single habit does more for the life of a healthcare seat than any specification on this page.

Should I use Silvertex or Pinnacle?

Silvertex when the submittal names the CFFA tests or an IAQ certificate. Pinnacle when it asks for antibacterial performance and disinfectant tolerance generally — Pinnacle publishes AATCC 147-2011, mildew resistance and a named cleaner list at a lower cost per yard. Call us and we will tell you which one your project actually needs.
